VOLUNTEERS ARE SUPERHEROES!

Well, that’s definitely true for the WOOF volunteer team, and I humbly include myself in this ode!

We often say that it takes a very special person to volunteer their time and work for free. I don’t agree. I think most people love to do good and be part of something great. But it does take a very special person to work long hours and commit their time and talents on a continued basis, without fail, even when time and resources are limited – now that’s special – and that’s what we have in the WOOF Team – unfailing continued support, love and teamwork…superheroes! Yes, I’ll take a high five for that!

Every function at WOOF Project is done on voluntary basis from managing the project, to promotion of our adoption dogs and our positive message, to admin, accounts, translations, events, and now even a fabulous creative team busy creating beautiful doggie toys, jackets, bowls and other quality items from mostly recycled material…soon to be added to our website…handmade with love in Belgium, 100% going to our cause to save animals and spread our positive message of adoption. Cool, right!

A very special mention here to the incredible team of rescue volunteers in Cyprus working in very difficult conditions; the brave and loving fosters who help keep our rescue dogs out of shelters where possible. And yes, the volunteers at shelters….brave, hard, wonderful labour of love
I love being part of such a dynamic team! And don’t think because its volunteer work that less time and quality go into our work – oh no, passion and love are the best motivators!

There are moments that one feels overwhelmed by the number of dogs that needs saving. And some of what we see…. it’s hard to deal with. You need a loving unfailing team to help carry this physical and emotional load.

I’m so proud of what we are achieving at WOOF Project, and so very grateful for the people that are making it possible. Let’s home them all.
“It always seems impossible until it’s done” Nelson Mandela.

And the more the merrier. The more we can spread the workload and the love and support.

If you have a passion for animals, working in a team and providing a professional and loving service to our dog and adoption heroes, then what are you waiting for? Join us, we would love to have you!

ADOPTION DOGS ARE THE BEST

DEBUNKING THE SILLY MYTHS ABOUT DOG ADOPTION.

Dog shelters are full of lovable healthy adoptable dogs just waiting for someone to take them home. It’s a common myth to think that all shelter dogs are damaged in some way. This is just not true…a silly myth!

Most homeless dogs are so due to no fault of their own. Reasons include financial difficulties, divorce, death in the family or other change in family situation…or didn’t realize how much time & attention a dog deserves and needs. Even worse, a surplus of dogs bred for profit!

Many shelter dogs are already housebroken, trained and ready to GO! Usually this is thanks to wonderful foster heroes or hard working shelter volunteers, or it’s just because the dog has already lived in a home. This makes the transition to your home much easier.

Remember, we are matchmakers, doing everything humanly possible to ensure you are perfectly matched with your new best buddy!

Thank you for considering dog adoption, and please help us debunk these silly myths of awesome shelter dogs!

Silly myth 1:

Shelter dogs are damaged or have problems.

Reality:

Dogs are abandoned for all sorts of reasons and most of the time it has nothing to do with the dog. The number one reason given for surrendering a dog is “moving.”
Another is “no time.”

Silly myth 2:

I can only get a mutt.

Reality:

On average 25 percent of shelter dogs are purebreds, and many breed rescue groups have purebreds. Puppy mills supplying purebreds are often selling inbred pets without care for preventing genetic problems. Mixed breed dogs are known to have less inbreeding, generally less inherited genetic disease, and therefore overall lower vet bills and happier dogs! And we have to ask, why wouldn’t you want an adorable mutt?

Silly myth 3:

There will be less of a bond if you haven’t raised the dog yourself.

Reality:

Not true. Any age dog grows attached very quickly, becoming part of the family. With an adult dog you generally know if its good with kids, furry or human, or makes a good running/walking/cuddle-bunny companion.

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, PERFECT, JUST AS YOU ARE.

Let’s say and mean these words, to ourselves, to every being…especially those with any type of perceived hardship.

People with an impoverished background, a disability, being adopted, do not seek your pity, or to be treated differently because of these perceived difficulties. All they ask is your love and respect. Animals are no different. In fact, they are extremely sensitive to human energy; they sense fear, sadness, pity…love, joy.

So why then do rescue agencies use sad stories and even sadder images when promoting dogs for adoption?

Generally speaking, the sadder the story, the quicker an animal is adopted. I get this. We need to save animals and get them adopted and into loving homes as quickly as possible. But the problem with this is that if we only focus on the negative, on the pity factor, we continue to fuel the misconception that all shelter dogs are damaged. Like humans, our past builds character, but it doesn’t define us. Dogs are very resilient; they live in the moment; even the worst mistreatment can be healed with a little patience and love.

And the fact of the matter is that the majority of dogs in shelters are happy healthy fun-loving bundles of joy; ready to share that joy.

It’s time that we change the status quo. Let’s focus on the positive and show these shelter animals for the amazing companions they will be. This is the mission of WOOF Project. Will you be part of our positive movement?

AND THE OSCAR GOES TO….OSCAR!

It all started with only a dream, an adorable shelter pooch called Oscar*, and a South African with a passion and determination bordering on madness!

*Like the coveted golden statute adored by so many making their mark on the red carpet… albeit Oscar initially having a slightly different interpretation to carpet marking…

No doubt this special adopted mutt was behind the barking mad decision of Joanne Lefson to take him on the World Woof Tour, visiting 42 countries across 5 continents in order to inspire dog adoption. The two even got married in Vegas! Oscar also inspired her to start WOOF Project**; a legacy to this dog that inspired her life; and that of so many others!

**WOOF Project (South Africa) is the adoption initiative powered by Oscars Arc, the registered NPO born to inspire dog adoption and save dogs’ lives. WOOF Project gives them the exposure they need to find a home and a life. And of course, if this incredibly successful adoption project can save so many dogs ‘lives in South Africa, why not bring it to Europe…and the rest of the world for that matter…?!

And like so many stars of the big screen enchanting us with adventures, laughter and acts of bravery; stealing our hearts, so Oscar has done the same….leaving us completely inspired and totally smitten. Who could say no to adopting an incredible superstar-in-the-making dog like Oscar…and yet so many had done just that! Thankfully Joanne would be the one to finally spot his lifesaving-Oscar-winning performance in the shelter. Thank you, Joanne, from the bottom of our hearts, for saving Oscar, but more importantly, saving so many like Oscar with Woof Project!
