Hi, I’m Chicago!  I’m a gentle and calm boy who likes to show off his handsome smile.  I love to run around and be with other dogs, I feel more confident when I’m around my friends.  And if you’ve got cats, no problem, I get along with them too.  Building confidence has helped me learn my true interests in life, including chasing lizards and splashing around in the kiddie pool.  I’m still shy around new people but I’m working on my confidence.  Once I get to know you I’ll show you how loving, gentle, and polite I can be.  I walk nicely on a leash and am always willing to learn new things, especially if treats are involved.  When the time is right, I’ll be glad to accept some cuddles, sometimes rolling onto my back and staying still so you don’t stop.

There’s not much known about my previous life. I was abandoned at a kill shelter and when the volunteers first found me, I was very scared.  I’ve come a long way since then and can’t wait to continue this path together. I am still a bit shy but I do better when there are other dogs around.  And I’m more relaxed when things are on the quieter side.  If you can show a little patience and understanding that I’ve been through a lot, I promise you’ll fall in love with me.

There is one more thing I would like to share with you. I was bitten by a sandfly and got Leishmania for which I received treatment and it is now dormant and under control. Leishmania is controllable and non transmittable. It is not life shortening if monitored correctly via blood tests. I do need to take inexpensive medication to make sure that the disease stays dormant and under control. My rescuers are very knowledgeable on this and can guide my family through.
