Hi there, my name is Elio. I am a sweet and enthusiastic dog who is enjoying life to the fullest.

Did you know that I have a favourite expression? It’s: After rain comes sunshine.

I haven’t always had much luck in the past, but I know that great things are waiting for me in my future. 😊

Of course, I’m also bringing a lot of positive qualities with me to my new family. I’m a social boy who loves human attention, but I also get along well with all of my doggy friends.

Something else that can be interesting to know about me is that I absolutely loooove treats, which will make it easy to train me.

What else should you know? I was bitten by a sandfly and got Leishmania for which I received treatment and it is now dormant and under control. Leishmania is controllable and NOT life shortening if monitored correctly, I do need to take inexpensive medication to make sure that the disease stays dormant and under control. My rescuers are very knowledgeable on this leishmania disease which is not transmittable and they tell me not to worry at all because with blood tests twice a year to monitor treatment, I will live a long and happy life!

But unfortunately, the people I used to live with didn’t see it this way and they locked me up in a filthy cage with no food or water. A passer-by managed to free me and that’s when my life on the streets began. I did get some food and water from the locals and although it still wasn’t an ideal situation, my luck was starting to change for the better. And then I was rescued a second time and brought to the shelter. Here I was able to get the necessary medical care and I could also restore my trust in humans.

I’m definitely not shy of showing my bubbly, happy-go-lucky personality. Or asking for lots of cuddles. 😉 And why should I? Life is smiling down at me. I get yummy food and treats, I can enjoy the company of my human and doggy friends, …

There is just one more thing missing in my life and that is a forever home. That special place that we all dream about.
