Hi, I am Jante and this is my story, which involves animals, people, love and companionship. You might know the book ‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’ by Charlie Mackesy. In the book the horse says ‘ everyone is a bit scared’ and the boy responds that ‘we are less scared together’. I have a strong connection to horses, it was their companionship I sought, when I was abandoned and trying to survive on my own. I was found on a paddock, scared and not in the best condition. Kind people took me in and brought me to the shelter, where I got plenty of food, companionship from the other dogs and lots of love from the volunteers. I started to gain confidence and I started to look at the world with different eyes. I am now so happy whenever I can play and get some cuddles from them, they describe me as very gentle. I might still be a bit shy at first and at the moment I still prefer quieter places, but over time my confidence will continue to grow and I will be a loyal companion for life.
There is one more thing I would like to share with you. I was bitten by a sandfly and got Leishmania for which I received treatment and it is now dormant and under control. Leishmania is controllable and non transmittable. It is not life shortening if monitored correctly via blood tests. I do need to take inexpensive medication to make sure that the disease stays dormant and under control. My rescuers are very knowledgeable on this and can guide my family through.
