Hi there, I am Patrick. If I had to describe myself in only one word, I would say ‘resilient’. That’s an odd choice, you say. Perhaps, but for me, that word symbolises the fact that I never let my past destroy my beautiful personality.

I am (and always will be) a happy, playful and super loving dog. In other words, the best friend you could ever ask for. One who doesn’t only get along well with his human companions, but also with his doggy friends. Just ask my foster family. 😊

When I was rescued from the kill shelter, I was in a very poor condition. To give you some more details: I was extremely malnourished, I had a very bad eye injury (the result of a gunshot or a hard hit) and I tested positive for leishmania. I’ll tell you more about this disease in a minute, but first I would like to share the rest of my story.

Despite the poor state I was in, I never lost my positive outlook on life or my loving personality. Even then I was still wagging my tail and showing affection to the people around me.

Healthwise I have undergone quite an evolution. My rescuers weren’t sure if I was going to pull through, but I showed everyone how strong I am. Because the injury to my right eye was so bad, it had to be removed. But this doesn’t hold me back at all to do all the fun things I enjoy.

I have also received treatment for leishmania (which I contracted after being bitten by a sandfly), which means it is now dormant and under control. Leishmania is controllable and NOT life shortening if monitored correctly. I do need to take inexpensive medication to make sure that the disease stays dormant and under control. My rescuers are very knowledgeable on this leishmania disease which is not transmittable and they tell me not to worry at all because with blood tests twice a year to monitor treatment, I will live a long and happy life!

A life that I would like to spend at the side of a loving family and that I would like to fill with daily swims. I almost forgot to mention that: I looove swimming! I secretly think that I am half dog, half fish. 😊

So it would be great if I could find a family who loves water and cuddles (!) just as much as me.
