Hi, I am Takies. I am a gentle and friendly rescue dog looking for a home where I can continue my journey from being fearful of people to a more confident dog who enjoys their company. I have taken huge steps forward since I was rescued from the wildfires in summer 2025. I had been a stray and most likely had to survive on my own for a long time. At the shelter I started to build trust and confidence and every time the volunteers take me out to the playground my confidence is growing. I know now that I am safe and cared for. I like to run around with a smile on my face and I climb on the wooden bridge, but most of all I love to take a bath in the water shell. I respond well when the volunteers call me and I go to them for treats, which I take gently out of their hands.

I share a pen with other dogs. When meeting new dogs I have to admit that I am not friends with all of them. I might have had some bad experiences in the past so I am a bit more cautious and need time to get to know them. It is the same with people and new situations. Everything can still be a bit scary and that’s why I am looking for a family who will give me the time I need. All I am asking for is patience and lots of love and understanding. I will make a great companion and I am sure there are lots of adventures and walks in nature that we can do together. The bond we will form will be a bond for life.

There is one more thing I would like to share with you. I was bitten by a sandfly and got Leishmania for which I received treatment and it is now dormant and under control. Leishmania is controllable and non transmittable. It is not life shortening if monitored correctly via blood tests. I do need to take inexpensive medication to make sure that the disease stays dormant and under control. My rescuers are very knowledgeable on this and can guide my family through.
